IEEE SB BMCE
IEEE SB BMCE (IEEE Student Branch of Baselios Mathews II College of Engineering) was established on 13th July 2022 and operates under IEEE Region 10 (R10), Kerala Section, Travancore Hub. The student branch has been an active platform for students passionate about technology, innovation, and professional development. Since its inception, IEEE SB BMCE has significantly contributed to building a vibrant technical community, fostering collaboration, and encouraging students to participate in industry-relevant initiatives. With a steadily growing membership, currently exceeding 85 student members, the branch remains committed to providing technical exposure and professional skill enhancement through its various events and activities.
IEEE SB BMCE has successfully organized multiple conferences, seminars, training sessions, and workshops, providing students with numerous opportunities to enhance their technical expertise and stay updated with the latest technological advancements. The IEEE Computer Society Student Chapter, an integral part of the branch, has been instrumental in promoting research, software development, and participation in coding competitions and technical discussions. Through various interactive sessions, technical talks, and hands-on training programs, the student branch has ensured that its members gain practical knowledge and experience, bridging the gap between theoretical learning and real-world applications.
Guided by Prof. Vishu V, the IEEE Student Branch Counsellor and Dr. Gouri M S, the IEEE Computer Society Chapter Advisor, the branch has made a substantial impact on the student community. IEEE SB BMCE has played a crucial role in empowering students and fostering their growth in the technical domain. By bridging the gap between academia and industry, the branch has enabled students to engage with professionals and experts, enhancing their leadership skills and expanding their professional networks. The continuous efforts of IEEE SB BMCE in organizing skill-building initiatives have significantly contributed to the technical excellence and innovation culture within the institution.

  • The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering in association with IEEE student chapter organized a workshop on INDUSTRY REVOLUTION 4.0 on 22.9.2022.

    The Resource person was Mr. KRISHNAN UNNI, Founder CEO & Managing Director ACUTRO TECHNOLOGIES. His talk provided an idea about the latest technologies and also the importance of being updated with the new trends in the Industry.

    The Fourth Industrial Revolution is the trend towards automation and data exchange in manufacturing technologies and processes which include cyber-physical systems (CPS), IoT, industrial internet of things, cloud computing, cognitive computing, and artificial intelligence.

    The IEEE Student Branch of BMCE organized an impactful orientation session for first-year students on September 3, 2024, led by its executive committee. The event introduced attendees to IEEE’s mission, global impact, and key offerings such as the IEEE Xplore library, certifications, and student- focused activities like hackathons and workshops.

    An interactive segment enabled students to engage with senior members, clarify doubts, and explore the benefits of IEEE membership for academic and professional growth. The session also served as a successful membership drive, boosting membership across all years.

    The event concluded with enthusiastic attendees inspired to explore the numerous opportunities IEEE offers, making it a significant step in fostering a thriving and active student community.

    IEEE SB BMCE hosted an insightful seminar on October 3, 2024, led by Dr. Deepak Mishra, Assistant Professor at IIST Trivandrum, focusing on the transformative impact of deep learning in healthcare. Dr. Mishra delved into advanced deep learning models such as CNNs, RNNs, and GANs, showcasing their applications in medical imaging, disease prediction, and drug discovery. The session also introduced practical tools like TensorFlow, Keras, and PyTorch for developing AI-driven medical solutions.

    An engaging interactive Q&A session allowed attendees to explore critical topics such as data privacy, model interpretability, and the ethical considerations of AI in healthcare. The seminar left participants inspired to explore the potential of deep learning in revolutionizing the medical field.

    The IEEE Execom Training 2024, held at Baselios Mathews II College of Engineering, Sasthamcotta, brought together 32 students and 2 faculty members. Dr. Vishnukumar S. Former Chair of the IEEE Computer Society Kerala Chapter, shared valuable insights on volunteering, leadership roles, and scholarships like the Richard E. Merwin Student Scholarship. His session inspired attendees to actively engage with IEEE, motivating them to leverage its resources and embrace its mission of innovation and leadership. The event had a significant impact, leaving participants more empowered and motivated to take on leadership roles within IEEE and contribute to its growing community.

    On October 9, 2024, IEEE SB BMCE hosted a seminar on Introduction to Blockchain, led by Ivin Saji, 3rd Year CSE Student, which focused on enhancing transaction security in banking, supply chains, and other networks. The session highlighted blockchain's decentralized and immutable ledger system, its expansion beyond cryptocurrencies into financial services, reputation systems, and more. It also addressed key challenges such as scalability and security, providing attendees with a comprehensive view of the technology's potential and limitations.

    Ivin further emphasized the role of deep learning in advancing blockchain technology, showcasing its potential for secure and efficient data management. The 45-minute session, attended by 85 students, included an interactive Q&A, offering valuable insights and fostering a deeper understanding of blockchain's transformative possibilities. The seminar concluded with the key takeaway: "Blockchain: Secure, Transparent, Innovative."
