Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana (PMGAY), previously Indira Awas Yojana (IAY), is a social welfare flagship Programme, created by the Indian Government, to provide housing for the rural poor in India. The Department of Civil Engineering was selected and approved as Technical consultancy for the construction low cost residential building projects under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-G) housing projects. Technical consultancy inaugurated by Sri Kovoor Kunjumon MLA. Projects are located in the jurisdiction of Sasthamcotta Block panchayath, Ochira Block panchayath and Chavara Block panchayath. Apart from the theoretical knowledge, our students got the opportunity to engage in the construction activities.

Role of the Technical Consultancy:

  • Provide the Support for the overall completion of the work (Technical side only)
  • Provide free of cost plan and estimate for the houses
  • Monitor the whole work as per the PMAY-G rules and regulations
  • Conducts technical as well as general awareness class for the PAMY beneficiaries.
  • Ensure the timely completion of work without compromising quality of work.
  • Provides work related material testing and inspection.
  • Conducts work site inspection on the basics of weekly and monthly.

We have successfully complete more than 154 houses in different jurisdiction within the stipulated time and cost. All PMAY-G beneficiaries were able to understand the cost effective methods and ensure fund utilization in a perfect way.

ON THE JOB TRAINING CENTER FOR VOCATIONAL SCHOOL STUDENTS

On-the-Job Training (OJT) and Integration of Knowledge and Skills during the transaction of the vocational courses, a continuous integration of knowledge and skills take place in the schools. It, however, needs to be augmented through On-the-Job Training (OJT) and project work. In order to be enriched with practical experience, the students are taken to an engineering service centre/Institution or manufacturing centre or production unit to work in a real life situation under the guidance of an expert practitioner. The students may be evaluated jointly by the teacher and the expert practitioner. Students are to be given project work to be done individually or in small groups. It will help them consolidate their learning, learn to communicate, and achieve the time target.

Our faculty members are actively participating in the On-the-Job training Progamme for vocational school students. Not less than 400 students are Successfully completed their OJT as part of their curriculum.. Since 2016 we provide On-the-Job Training for students from the following schools:

1.SNGD VHSS, Kuzhikkalidavaka, Puthoor.
2. St.George VHSS, Chowallor.
3. KRKPMHS, Kadampanadu
4. Dr.C.T.Eapen Memorial St.Thomas VHSS, Adoor
5. EVHSS, Elammanoor.
6. KNNM Vocational Higher Secondary School, Pavithreswaram, Kottarakkara

MAPATHON KERALAM

Mapathon Keralam is an initiative by the Kerala State IT Mission, with the motto - Lets Make Our Map. Through the Mapathon Keralam, the Government of Kerala aims to create extensive local maps of Kerala including physical infrastructure, natural resources and other information that are useful for planning and other developments. The free online mapping platform, OpenStreetMap (OSM), is used for this mapping event as part of Kerala government policy to strengthen activities focused on free knowledge and Free and Open Source Software. The project is being led by the Kerala State Spatial Data Infrastructure (KSDI) under the Kerala State IT Mission and supported by other institutions. Project is supported by the Rebuild Kerala Initiative.

Baselios Mathews II College of Engineering is also a part of the Mapathon Keralam initiative by mapping the entities at Kottarakkara Municipality. The The project was facilitated through the Kerala Technological University. The technical training required for the mapping process was provided by KSITM. The data required for the mapping was collected from the municipality authorities and the ward counselors. The students and faculty actively participated in the mapping. The mapping was successfully completed in January 2022.
